Late March, 2007 - We Pay a Visit to Costa Rica

Starting in San Jose in the middle of the country, we made a grand loop, first eastward to the Caribbean coast, and then back over the mountains to the north to the Pacific coast to the west and finally returning to San Jose.  A beautiful country with friendly people.  We saw a wide variety of climate systems, from high volcanic mountains, cloud forests, tropical rain forests, and warm coastal beaches.

The weather was great.  Sunny every day except our visit to the central mountains town of La Fortuna, at the base of the still active Arenal volcano.  Low clouds and rain held forth for our stay.  But for Joy and I, and those of our group who accompanied us, our day trip to the Rio Frio to the north led us to sunny skies and warm weather.  On our return, we hit a hot springs spa, enjoying the warm pools during pouring rain.  It was delightful.  But we never did see much of the mountain.

We enjoyed the variation of climates all tucked in such a small area.  Cool mountains to hot and humid Pacific coast.
